Learn to make Trinity crochet stitch – 1 stitch 2 patterns

Already know how to do a single crochet and looking to try a textured crochet stitch next? Then Trinity crochet stitch is for you. It is a beginner friendly stitch and all you need to know basically is how to do a single crochet. It is a very dense stitch and is made up of ‘single crochet 3 together’ and chains. Not only this stitch is easy, but with a slight variation you can create 2 completely different textures using the same stitch. And don’t worry if you don’t know how to do ‘Single crochet 3 together’. I have included step by step directions in the pattern below and also have linked YouTube video tutorial with a very slow and detailed demonstration.

Crochet Stitches and Abbreviation –

  • Note – This pattern is in US terms.
  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • sc3tog – single crochet 3 together – insert the hook into the same chain/stitch as previous stitch, pull up the loop. Then, insert the hook into the next chain/stitch and pull up another loop. Finally, insert the hook one more time into the next chain/stitch and pull up one last loop. Total 4 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull the yarn through all the loops. This is called ‘single crochet 3 together’ or also known as sc3tog.

Trinity Crochet Stitch Pattern 1 –

  • Start with even number of chain stitches i.e. multiples of 2.

Row 1 –

  • 1 sc into the second chain from the hook.
  • sc3tog starting with same ch as previous sc and in each of the next 2 chains.
  • *ch1, sc3tog inserting hook first into the same ch as 3rd leg of the previous sc3tog and then into each of the next 2 ch*. Repeat * to last ch .
  • Do not ch 1 after the last sc3tog. 1 sc in the same chain as the last leg of the sc3tog.
  • Ch 1 and turn around the work.

Row 2 –

  • 1 sc into the 1st stitch.
  • sc3tog starting with the same stitch as previous sc and in each of the next 2 chains.
  • * ch1, sc3tog inserting hook into the same ch as 3rd leg of previous sc3tog, and then into top of next 2 stitches. * Repeat * till the last stitch.
  • Do not ch 1 after the last sc3tog of the row. 1 sc in the same chain as the last leg of the sc3tog.
  • Repeat row 2 as many times as you need to create the fabric.

Trinity Crochet Stitch Pattern 2 –

  • Start with odd number of chain stitches i.e. (multiples of 2) + 1.

Row 1 –

  • 1 sc into the second chain from the hook.
  • sc3tog starting with same ch as previous sc and in each of the next 2 chains.
  • ch 1
  • *sc3tog inserting hook first into the same ch as 3rd leg of the previous sc3tog and then into each of the next 2 ch, ch 1*. Repeat * till end .
  • 1 sc in the last chain.
  • Ch 1 and turn around the work.

Row 2 –

  • 1 sc into the 1st stitch.
  • sc3tog starting with the same stitch as previous sc and in each of the next 2 chains.
  • ch 1
  • * sc3tog inserting hook into the same ch as 3rd leg of previous sc3tog and then into top of next 2 stitches, ch 1 *. Repeat * till end.
  • 1 sc in the last/turning chain.
  • Repeat row 2 as many times as you need to create the fabric.
