Steps –

Single Crochet Row 1 –

  • Start with the desired number of chain stitches.
  • Once you have made the desired number of chain stitches, turn around your work.
  • To make the first single crochet, insert the hook into the top loop of the second chain from the hook.
  • Yarn over and pull the yarn through to create a loop on the hook. Now you should have 2 loops on the hook.
  • Now, Yarn over again and pull it through both loops on the hook. And that is your first single crochet.
  • Next, insert the hook in the next chain , yarn over , draw up a loop, yarn over again and pull it through both the loops on the hook.
  • Continue doing single crochet stitches till the end of the row.

Single Crochet Row 2 –

  • Before starting the next row, we need to make sure that we maintain the height of the stitches for the next row. This is done by making chains, called Turning chains. For single crochet, the number of turning chains required is 1.
  • After the last stitch of the row 1, chain 1 and turn the work around to start the next row.
  • Insert the hook in the top of the last single crochet from the previous row.
  • Yarn over and pull the yarn through to create a loop on the hook. Now you have 2 loops on the hook.
  • Yarn over again and pull it through both loops on the hook to create the 1st single crochet of row 2.
  • Continue doing single crochet to finish the row.
