Easy and elegant Crochet drawstring gift bag

Hello! Today I am going to share with you a very easy and elegant crochet drawstring gift bag. This pattern is versatile enough that you can either use a single color yarn, or use multiple colors as I’ve done below. The stitches used in this pattern are single crochet, double crochet and half double crochet.

Gift Bags

The pattern starts with a magic circle and a couple of rounds of single crochet stitches. It is then followed by half double crochet rounds. I then incorporated double crochet and shell stitches( combination of single and double crochet stitches) to create a cute pattern in the middle of the bag. Finally, I added eyelets and made drawstrings using chain stitches woven through the eyelets.

The pictures below are of the bag made with multiple yarns.

Alternative Ideas –

In addition to making a gift bag using multiple yarns, I made one more with just a single color. In addition, to give it extra visual appeal, I added some embroidery.

Embroidered bag

But if you don’t want to do embroidery, no worries! Even without embroidery, the bag still looked very nice. I have added a final picture of this single yarn bag just to show you that once you know the basic design, the possibilities are endless.

Here are a few ideas on how you can customize the design to make it your own –

  1. Use a single color yarn or multiple yarns of different colors.
  2. Continue with half double crochet all the way from round 11 to round 19 to further simplify the design.
  3. The bag can be personalized by embroidering initials or logos.
  4. With the holiday season fast approaching, you may want to add holiday colors. In addition, you could embroider your favorite holiday designs on the bag as well.

It’s a very quick project and you should be able finish it within couple of hours. I’ve added step-by-step pictures along with the pattern below. Anytime you feel stuck, or have questions, feel free to checkout my video where I show each round in detail.

Give it a try and share the results with me on Instagram or Pinterest . And as always, let me know in the comments what you think of this design! Hope you enjoy this project as much as I did.
