Today, let’s explore a practical and stylish project: making your own crochet water bottle holder. Whether you’re hiking, heading to the gym, or simply out and about, having your hands free is a game-changer. With this DIY accessory, you’ll keep your water bottle secure and within reach while adding a personal touch to your daily routine.
This crochet bottle starts with a magic circle and is made using three of the most basic crochet stitches – slip stitch, single crochet and half double crochet. You can add a color change for a pop of color, or stick to one color if you prefer. Once the base and sides are done, a strap is added for convenience and hands-free carrying.The strap of the bottle is made using 2 rows of single crochet and attached to the sides of the bottle using few slip stitches.
Customization and Tips-
- Choose the right yarn: Pick a strong yarn that can support the weight of the water bottle without stretching. Cotton is a great choice for this project.
- Choose the right hook size: Match the hook size to the thickness of your yarn. A smaller hook makes a tighter fabric, while a larger hook creates a looser, more flexible fabric.
- Check your Water bottle size: Before starting your project, measure the circumference and height of your water bottle to ensure a snug fit.This will help you determine the size of the holder and make any necessary adjustments to the pattern.
- Use stitch markers: When working in continuous rounds without joining, use stitch markers to mark the beginning of each round for easier tracking.
- Alternative to magic circle: If you prefer not to use a magic circle, start with 2 chains and join them with a slip stitch to create a circle.
- Customize the strap: Adjust the length of the strap to your preference by adding or reducing the number of chains. You can attach the strap to the sides of the holder using slip stitches as directed in the pattern, or crochet it separately and sew it on later.

This holder fits a bottle that has 2.5″ diameter and is 8.5″ tall using the yarn and the hook used below. Different yarn or a hook size may result in a different size holder.

- Yarn A – Peaches & Creme Solid 4 Medium Cotton Yarn – Royal (1 skein)
- Yarn B – I Love This Cotton Yarn – Gold(1 skein)

Crochet Water Bottle Holder Pattern (US Terms) –
Note – Always mark the first stitch of the round using a stitch marker.
Rounds 1 to 6
- Round 1 – Using yarn A, start with the Magic circle and 6 sc in the center of the circle. Total stitches – 6.
- Round 2 – 2 sc in each stitch. Mark the first stitch. Total stitches – 12.
- Round 3 – *1 sc, 1 inc* Repeat * till the end of the round. Total stitches – 18.
- Round 4 – * 1 sc, 1 sc, 1 inc*. Repeat * till the end of the round. Total stitches – 24.
- Round 5 – * 1 sc, 1 sc, 1 sc, inc *. Repeat * till the end of the round. sl st to the first stitch to join the round. Total stitches – 30.
- Round 6 – ch 1, 1 blsc in each of the stitches. sl st to the first stitch to join the round. Total stitches – 30.
Rounds 7 to 11
Work in continuous rounds without joining.
- Round 7 – ch 2, 1 hdc in the same stitch. 1 hdc in each of the remaining 29 stitches. Total stitches – 30.
- Round 8 to 11 – 1 hdc in each of the 30 stitches. Total stitches – 30.
- At the end of round 11, sl st to the top of the 1st stitch to join the round.
Round 12 to 14
- Round 12 – ch 2 using yarn A. Change the yarn to yarn B. 1 hdc in the same stitch. 1 hdc in each of the remaining 29 stitches. Total stitches – 30.
- Round 13 and 14 – 1 hdc in each of the 30 stitches. Total stitches – 30.
- At the end of round 14, sl st to the top of the 1st stitch to join the round.
Rounds 15 to 28
Work in continuous rounds without joining.
- Round 15 – ch 2 using yarn B. Change the yarn to yarn A. 1 hdc in the same stitch. 1 hdc in each of the remaining 29 stitches. Total stitches – 30.
- Round 16 to 29 – 1 hdc in each of the 30 stitches. Total stitches – 30.
Last Round
- Round 30- 1 sl st in each of the stitches. sl st to the 1st stitch to join the round. Total stitches – 30
Strap
- After finishing the last round, mark 2nd, 15th, 16th, 17th and 30th stitches of the last round using stitch markers.
- ch 150 without cutting the yarn.
- sl st to 16th stitch making sure that the chain is not twisted.
- Next sl st to the 15th stitch that was just marked and 1 sc in each of the 150 chains.
- sl st to the 2nd stitch of the round. ch 1 and sl st to 30th that is the last stitch of the round. 1 sc in other side of each of the 150 chains.
- sl st to 17th stitch of the round. Cut the yarn, fasten off and weave in the ends.
